Solve: 8÷2(2+2)

WHY I HAVE SET THE PROBLEM

To correct the long held wrong assumptions about BODMAS

Most teachers taught us that the “o” in BODMAS means off.

Actually, the “o” stands for order or period – index, power or exponent.

BODMAS (also known as BIDMAS) helps you to remember the order that you need to do your mathematical calculations where there is more than one mathematical operator (any combination of brackets, indices, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction)

■ B- Brackets

■ I- Indices (powers of)

■ D- Division

■ M- Multiplication

■ A- Addition

■ S- Subtraction

Solve: 8÷2(2+2)

Hint: BODMAS (BIDMAS)

Bracket first, & Division before Multiplication

Step 1: Deal with the bracket first

(2+2)=4

Step 2: Deal with Division next

8÷2=4

Step 3: Deal with the multiplication

4×4=16
